The traditional Easter egg hunt has just gotten a pretty eggs-cellent makeover!
The Easter bunny (with the help of jeweler Faberge) has hidden over 250 Easter eggs across New York City… but your average plastic shells these ain’t. Each egg stands 2.5 feet tall and has been decorated by a famous designer, artist, or brand (Martin Handford’s roaming Where’s Waldo-themed egg is especially witty). Check out this blingin’ Swarovski crystal-encrusted Georgina Chapman egg spotted at Omar’s La Ranita on April 4th. OMAR’s La Ranita is a neighborhood eatery in Greenwich Village, NY, tucked away in a historic brownstone on West 9th Street. Waiting around to see these beauties isn’t advisable- several eggs were stolen and damaged during 2012’s hunt in London. This year’s event, which began April 1st and will end on April 17th, has an accompanying app that hunters can download and use to check in at each egg in order to win one of Faberge’s three $30,000-$48,000 sparkly egg pendants. If you aren’t one of the lucky winners- well, you can always bid on one of the big eggs at the post-hunt charity auction or visit one of the pop-up shops located across the city – like Saks Fifth Avenue, 611 5th Avenue; it’s a much classier way to celebrate Easter than with smelly hard-boiled eggs, that’s for sure. Now, get crackin’!
